o life and experiences and changes and sameness, and we finally DANCED! Daniel and I went to our first boda in Mexico yesterday in Santa Ana Maya, a nearby town. Last week, we met the aunt of the groom on the street, where she ‘knew just looking at us that we were good people’– and thus invited us to the wedding the following weekend…aka YESTERDAY. My second wedding! I think I love weddings– I’ve been to two now and have felt happy and excited— dancing, eating, celebrating —everyone radiating excitement. We drank many a Coronita and danced some dances before taking a cab home. phew– what a relief to move my body in such a way again. Many people there danced in pairs, in a way that to me seemed stiff, and curious because one of the initial dances was this ‘loosey-goosey’ dance wear everyone sort of shook-ish– kind of like the way Daniel and I dance. After that, all this pair stuff began, and Daniel and I danced the loosey-goosey regardless. Oh rejoice, dancing bodies! Bodies that are alive and awake and connected!
AND Daniel and I have five chickens and a rooster! Daniel’s aunt Elvira commented that the rooster sings a lot– to which I responded, “si, si, y me gusta la canción” (yes, yes and I like the song)– and the chickens run around and eat the corn kernels and beans we give them, as well they eat chuchos (grasshoppers) and alacranes (scorpions!) and grass– It’s incredible to me to see their varying temperments and the ways they bathe in the dirt, and peck at things…AND LAY EGGS! In three days, we’ve four brown eggs! what gifts they give— I am so thankful to our new buddies.
And so thankful to experiences. To speaking truths. To resting when I need rest. To taking care of our babies (gatitos y verduras y gallinas!!). To discovering friends, like Lupita who invited us to the boda. To everything for being what it is when it is. To feeling my feelings. To missing dancing and riding my bicycle and making coffee. To trusting.
