chicken sat, eggs hatched.

¡we got three new chicks!

toast to them: peepeeMohawk, nails, and bubbleMonster.

hooray, hooray.

+++++++++++but oh no,

+++the puppies are biting chickens.

+++++++++++++++++the chickens are eating chickies.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++the chickies, are being eaten by ants.

the chickens are eating chickies?

on the day after the chicks were hatched, we set out to build them a special nook. when i went into the coop, i noticed the gold hen creeping towards the nest. i turn my back only to be turned again by the cheeeerps of the chickies. oh no, the red hen is dashing across the coop with peepeeMohawk in her mouth. what the hell? i chase the hen, she drops peepee. is she alive? phew, she’s alive. her left leg sustained some serious injuries. we’re not sure if it is broken, but it sure is bloody and swollen. we considered and decided to leave her with her momma. let’s see if she makes it. oh no, in the morning peepee is under the nest covered in ants. is she alive? we’re not sure. she moves a little, but maybe its just post-partum twitching. i’m not sure if she’s gonna make it. let’s put her in this coconut shell lined with leaves and wool and place it on top of the food dehydrator and see if she recovers…

a few hours later, holy mole, she is alive. hooray, hooray. we bandaged her wounds and rebekah taught her how to eat and drink out of the lid of a jar. it was quite a move. like a dolphin being suspended by her back fin as she dips into the tank to get a sip. today she looked much better. her wounds are closed and her leg is no longer swollen and she’s running all over the place. today we decided to put her back with her mother and sisters. let’s hope she makes it and grows big and strong chicken. and if one day, when she’s big and strong chicken, she decides to take that old red hen by the leg, one thing’s for sure, i’m not stopping her.

  1. Wow! What an adventure! Long live Peepee Mohawk! The brave little fellow …… and one question….can the duct tape be removed?????

  2. yeah, the duct tape was put over gauze to stop the bleeding and was later removed. thanks for the interest and concern.

  3. He kind of looks like a Megaman Enemy from the NES era. Maybe the red hen knows something you don’t? Either way his resilience is impressive.
