two weeks without the internet

two weeks on the farm!

two weeks on the farm!

working.  living.  walking.  up steep hills.  across a stream.  warm greenhouses.  rain.  transplanting.  planting.

The puppies arrived a little over a week ago.  And I am in the process of learning to live here with them.  They are no longer ‘too skinny’ as everyone once accused them.  They are filled with life and energy!  I feel joyful and find it exhausting.  Because work is exhausting too.  and energizing.

I am LEARNING learning learning.  not so unlike my time in Mexico.  Here I have these teachers, Henry in particular and his family and Matt the farmhand and the universe.  I was going to wait to ask how many potatoes one potato cutting would produce, and then I felt excited and SO CURIOUS.  So I asked.  and to me, one potato cutting produces so many potoatoes!!  hooray.

oh life life life.
and when I think of Mexico.  one month ago yesterday we departed, and one month ago today we arrived in Chicago.  I can hardly believe that Mexico stills goes on.  That life in Mexico is still happening in the ways that it does.  That right now, everyone is probably getting ready for comer.  That around 8:00 tonight, Elvira and Ventura and Elena will drink instant coffee and milk and eat pan.  And then they will take their evening walk.  if they do.  I feel shameful that I assume that things are so predictable.  I trust that they may not be doing the things I imagine.  As well, I trust that they may be.  oh Mexico Mexico Mexico.

and here the soil is lush.  soft after it is tilled.  as we kneel in the dirt with the earthworms and plant.  deep brown.  and everything is sprouting.  There is life life life.  We are producing this crop.  To nourish ourselves, and families, and hundreds of other families who come to the CSA or the markets.

incredible.

And I love baby goats, how they hop, how fantasia.

until next time
until the internet pops up in my life.
whenever that may be.
