MAZAHUA DONATIONS

a sudden spark of inspiration on two spirit bodies that refuse to resist love’s gravitational pull has put us here: running - running for peace, love and light. running for life, land and dust. running for you and running for us. running for one and running for all!!

Rebekah and I are running the Chicago Marathon on October 11, 2009. We have pledged to raise $1000 for  Fundación Mazahua, a not for profit organization working to better the lives of a group indigenous people in central Mexico known as the Mazahua . Help us help them. Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated. This money will go to helping them build and maintain a clinic and a prickly pear cactus farm.

[update: It was a cold, wet morning. Low to mid 30's. We knew it would be cold so the night before, we made a quick trip to the salvation army to pick up layers that we could shed in the morning. We both wore our finger shoes. We cut wool gaiters in an attempt to keep our toes warm prior to the start. Those gaiters did very little when faced with wet grass and mud. Our finger toes were wet and freezing. With just minutes to gun blast, Bekah decides she needs to take off her shoes and rub some feeling back into those toes. I wish her the best and dive into a sea of thousands of people. Our time is near. I peel and toss layers as i approach the start line. and we're off! Charged by the sea. Pumping pure adrenaline, with no strategy in mind, the strategy becomes run as fast as you can; catch up to the 6:30 pace group that started 10 minutes earlier. The sea becomes a trail through which to bob and weave through.  Just before the half, I caught up to and passed by the 6:30 group. Running with the six minute group was incredible. It felt like I was part of a unit of international super humans whose powerful syncopated rhythms were making the world turn, or a giant ship to move. I pushed until my calves tightened and seemed like they may tear if I kept it up. Right about the half, I dropped back and jogged the rest of the way. Like a fallen surfer, the sea now washes over me and i float to shore. All in all, for both of us, it was a thrilling and invigorating experience, an experience we can only hope to have more of. - d.e. LionDigi]
